Road Closures and Detours for the Lexington Christmas Parade

Spread the love

Chief Terrence Green, in an effort to inform the Town of Lexington community, wishes to announce road closures and detours scheduled for Sunday, December 4th, during the Town of Lexington Christmas Parade set to take place in downtown Lexington.

Commencing at 1:00 p.m., West Butler Street will be closed from Columbia Avenue to North Church Street. Additionally, Haygood Avenue and a section of Meetze Street will be temporarily inaccessible to facilitate the assembly and preparation of parade floats.

The parking lot of the Lexington County Extension Office, situated at 605 West Main Street, will also be unavailable throughout the day, serving as a staging area for float setup.

The Christmas Parade’s designated route will encompass Haygood Avenue, West Main Street (US-1), and North Lake Drive (SC-6). For optimal parade viewing, spectators are encouraged to position themselves along West Main Street, stretching from Haygood Avenue to the intersection of Main Street and Lake Drive.

To accommodate the 3:00 p.m. commencement of the Christmas Parade, road closures will take effect at 2:45 p.m. These closures will encompass West Main Street (from Columbia Avenue to North Lake Drive), East Main Street (at Harmon Street), North Lake Drive (at Dreher Street), and South Lake Drive (at Fort Street). Traffic will be diverted away from the parade route until the event concludes.

The primary detours are expected to reopen around 4:30 p.m. Simultaneously, West Butler Street, spanning from Columbia Avenue to South Church Street, will remain closed until all parade floats and participants have vacated the roadway.

Attendees are advised to arrive early to secure parking and seating along the parade route, as this event consistently draws substantial crowds. Public parking lots in close proximity to the parade offer convenient options, as parking in private business lots carries the risk of towing at the owner’s expense.
