Tesla is making significant strides in Germany by embarking on the production of its first car priced below €25,000 ($26,867). As reported by Reuters and attributed to an undisclosed source, this exciting development was even confirmed by Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, during his recent visit to the company’s Gigafactory in Grünheide, near Berlin.
Despite the anticipation surrounding this announcement, the available information is quite limited. Details about when production will commence and the specific characteristics of the new vehicle remain shrouded in mystery.
Presently, Tesla’s $5.5 billion Gigafactory in Berlin focuses on manufacturing the popular Tesla Model Y. The pursuit of creating an affordable electric vehicle with a price tag around €25,000 has been a long-standing aspiration for Tesla. Elon Musk expressed this desire in 2020, but the release of the anticipated “Model 2,” which is expected to be the cheapest Tesla, has faced several delays and location changes, initially planned for Gigafactory Mexico but later shifted to Gigafactory Texas.
In addition to the budget-friendly car, Tesla is also exploring the development of a robotaxi, a self-driving vehicle designed for passenger transportation. However, the next Tesla car to hit the market is likely to be a more premium and expensive model. An upcoming event on November 30 will mark the unveiling of the Cybertruck SUV at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, although the exact pricing for this vehicle is still undisclosed, it is expected to be among the higher-priced options in Tesla’s lineup.
