Safety features like dual channel ABS in bikes, competition with Apache RTR
Two-wheeler maker KTM has today launched two new bikes 250 Duke and 390 Duke in the Indian market. The company has prepared both the bikes on a new frame. Apart from this, it has been provided with safety features like smartphone connectivity and ABS. The bikes will compete with TVS Apache RTR 310 in India.
KTM 250 and 390 Duke: Price and availability
The company has kept the starting price of KTM 250 Duke at Rs 2.39 lakh and the starting price of 390 Duke at Rs 3.11 lakh. Both prices are Delhi, ex-showroom.
The new 250 Duke has become costlier by about Rs 779 compared to the existing model, while the price of the new generation 390 Duke has increased by more than Rs 13 thousand compared to the existing model.
Booking for both the motorcycles has been started. Buyers can book the bikes by paying token money of Rs 4,499. Bikes will start arriving at dealerships this month and deliveries will be made after that.
KTM 250 and 390 Duke: Design and platform
The company has prepared the new generation KTM 390 Duke and 250 Duke on a new platform. This platform is composed of a trellis frame and an aluminum sub-frame. It manages the power-to-weight ratio with the engine at higher speeds. KTM says that the new platform has improved the riding handling of the bikes.
Talking about design, motorcycles are looking more aggressive and more attractive than before. There is a new twin headlamp setup at the front, with LED DRLs placed on either side of the headlamp housing.
The newly designed fuel tank with new graphics on the shroud looks stronger and more powerful than before. The floating rear section has no body panels and the rear subframe is completely open. The bikes now have side-slung exhaust mufflers instead of underbelly units.
The new KTM 390 Duke is available in two color options: Electronic Orange Metallic and Atlantic Blue. Whereas, KTM 250 Duke is available with Electronic Orange and Ceramic White color options. Both the bikes have 17 inch alloy wheels.
KTM 250 and 390 Duke: Engine Specifications
The new KTM 390 Duke is powered by a 389 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that generates 45.3 hp of maximum power and 39 Nm of peak torque. At the same time, the new generation KTM 250 Duke has a new 249cc liquid-cooled engine which generates 31 hp power and 25 nm torque. It is 1 hp more powerful and 1 nm more torquey than the previous existing model. Both the engines are tuned to a 6-speed gearbox and come with quickshifter with slipper clutch.
KTM 250 and 390 Duke: Suspension, Braking and Features
For riding comfort, the suspension setup includes WP APEX adjustable front forks with 5-click rebound and compression adjustment, 5-click rebound and 10-click preload adjustable monoshock at the rear.
For braking, both the bikes have been provided with high-tech BYBRE braking system with advanced ABS. There are 320 mm disc brakes at the front and 230 mm disc brake at the rear.
Other features include ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, ride modes, cornering ABS, Supermoto ABS, track screen, launch control, 5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, Type-C charging port, etc.
