In today’s world, life cannot be imagined without social media. This is the medium with the help of which we keep track of our friends and relatives. They get jobs, go shopping, and entertain themselves.
This is a good aspect of social media, but it also has many side effects. You are able to enjoy so much free fun and enjoy so many benefits on social media because you are a product there. Social media companies keep assessing your likes and dislikes every moment and your entire user experience is built on this basis.
Therefore, if you keep a few things in mind while using social media, not only will your personal data remain safe, but your experience will also be great. Let us know from tech expert Abhishek Tailang about some such easy, but important methods:
1. Data is not deleted on the Internet!
Once any data is entered in the internet directory, it is very difficult to delete it completely. That’s why never post your most personal information on social media. Such as home address, phone number or financial data. Think about all this first while sharing photos and videos.
Do not post anything online that you consider even 1% personal and whose leakage could cause you any harm.
It is very difficult to completely delete any data in an Internet directory.
2. Enable Two Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication (2FA) on social media is like a security shield, which is not easy to penetrate. If this is enabled, even if your password gets hacked, no one can access your account without other authentication, be it your iris scan or fingerprints or OTP, so keep this setting enabled.
3. Take care of privacy settings
The first sentinel that stands for the safety of your personal data on social media is the privacy settings given on your phone and that social media platform. Keep checking these privacy settings from time to time and after every update. Like see who sees your posts on that platform? Who has access to your contacts and friends? Who can see your photos? And most importantly, is access to your location not selected on an option like ‘Always Allow’?
4. Don’t trust even ‘friends’
Because nowadays we have become so conscious that we do not entertain chats or links sent by strangers. So now hackers have adopted another route. They hack a friend’s social media account and then yours. All this happens with the help of chat or hyperlinks.
In the chat you will be asked to download something or click on a link, which may have been sent by your ‘friend’. You will think that your friend has sent it, so you will click on it or download it. That’s it, you too will get trapped. Therefore, if there is even the slightest suspicion or if you feel that your friend is behaving strangely on social media or chat, then be alert.
5. Keep an eye on ‘inactive’ accounts
With time, your friend list on social media increases, some of whom you know, but there are many people in the friend list whom you have neither met nor do you interact with them on a daily basis. Many are inactive. So keep removing such friends from your friend list once every two months.
Hackers first take over such inactive accounts and then try to break into your account through them.
