Elon Musk Twitter Banned More Than 11 Lakh Accounts In India Because Of Policy Violation

A record 11,32,228 Twitter accounts have been banned in India from April 26 to May 25 by Elon Musk. Most of the accounts promoted child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. The micro-blogging site also removed 1,843 accounts for promoting terrorism on its platform in the country. Overall Twitter banned 11,34,071 accounts in India during the period under review.

Complaints and Proceedings in India

According to the news, Twitter in its monthly report related to compliance with new IT rules, 2021 said that it received 518 complaints from users in India in the same time frame through its complaint redressal system. In addition, Twitter acted on 90 complaints appealing account suspensions. The most complaints from India were about abuse/harassment (264), hateful conduct (84), sensitive adult content (67) and defamation (51).

A monthly compliance report has to be published

Under the new IT Rules 2021, major digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users will have to publish a monthly compliance report. Meanwhile, Twitter recently approved 83 percent of government requests to block content globally, including in India and Turkey.

Now one cannot see anyone’s tweet without logging in

Twitter keeps updating its users about something, after Elon Musk’s ownership, Twitter is undergoing major improvements. Now another big update has come out in this matter. Twitter made a new and big change on Friday. As per the new change, tweets can no longer be viewed without logging in, meaning you will have to create your Twitter ID if you want to view tweets. Elon Musk called this a temporary emergency measure.

He said that several platforms were training their linguistic models with their data.
