A report was published in the media that children were being used in drug trafficking in the state. The High Court had earlier filed a suo moto petition regarding this. On which further hearing was conducted today. In which the High Court expressed satisfaction over the action of the state government and the police department. The state government submitted an affidavit on this issue following the directions of the High Court.

The government said that all police commissioners and district superintendents have been directed to conduct awareness programs in this regard. Awareness programs and seminars have been conducted in schools through NGOs. The High Court asked the Gujarat Police to continue the action against drugs and disposed of the petition.

Use of children as drug peddlers
In the previous hearing, SOG filed an affidavit in the High Court. A news organization published a report about children being used as drug peddlers. The police are taking action on the issue. Police registered an FIR and arrested the accused. Also, the details of the actions done by the police were brought to the attention of the High Court. In which the High Court was assured to carry out intensive checking in suspicious areas. At present, 18 cases have been registered against 20 youths under the NDPS Act. A report was presented in the court that the state government is taking appropriate steps for the rehabilitation of such children.

251 accused arrested in NDPS case
The state government informed the court that between 2020 and 2022, a total of 177 cases of NDPS Act have been registered, 251 accused have been arrested. The state government also revealed in the report that there are five juvenile accused. The government submitted before the court that the school is conducting regular checking around the college to prevent the abuse of tobacco and drugs. As many as 2609 offenses have been reported in drives for sale of tobacco and other prohibited items in the vicinity of schools and colleges, the government said. 3,92,000 penalty was imposed in such cases.

4 crimes of e-cigarettes in Ahmedabad
Four crimes related to e-cigarettes were reported in Ahmedabad city. In which 3266 e-cigarettes were seized. The High Court ordered the government to take strict action on the issue of drug trafficking of these children.
