In Junagadh, 08 religious places were served notices by the Municipal Corporation to submit supporting evidence regarding illegal construction in the Municipal Corporation area. As 05 belonged to Muslim community and 03 belonged to Hindu community. Among these is the Dargah of Hazrat Reshamshasha Pir Bawa near Majewadi Gate in Junagadh. The Junagadh Municipal Corporation had issued a notice to Sharadumsha and Reshamsha Pir Dargah Trust to present the supporting evidence of the dargah, considering it as an illegal construction.

The atmosphere became tense due to the fact that this dargah will be demolished by the Junagadh Municipal Corporation regarding this notice. A crowd of around 02,000 people had gathered at midnight on Friday, June 16. Police, government employees, ST bus were attacked by the mob when the police arrived. Vehicles were burnt. One person died in this incident. While one DYSP and four PSI were injured. Passengers of ST bus were also injured due to stone pelting.

Police beat some people while standing
A PIL has been filed by the Lok Adhikar Sangh and the Minority Coordination Committee regarding the local people protesting against police brutality. It may be mentioned that near the shrine, the police beat up some of the accused for rioting. The video of which went viral on social media. People who did not know the origin of this incident also termed it as an atrocity on the minority community.

A PIL has been filed in the High Court alleging that the police beat the accused in public and in custody. The hearing was conducted before a bench of Acting Chief Justice AJ Desai and Biren Vaishnav. The petitioner submitted in the previous hearing that the police did not follow due process of law and the accused were not proved guilty in the court. Beating them then is a violation of human rights. Today, the court sent a notice to the state government regarding this case. This includes the Home Department and the Police. Further action will be taken on this issue on July 17.
