Conjunctivitis disease has taken over in Surat. There is a long queue of more than 300 patients in Civil Hospital every day. The situation has become alarming as the infection of this disease is increasing rapidly among children and the elderly. Since this disease has been rampant in Surat for several days, medicines worth Rs 4 to 5 crore have been sold so far. Also the sale of drops in medical stores has increased 10 times. Most of the customers are coming to medical stores for eye drops and antibiotics. According to one estimate, there has been a huge jump in sales. 5 to 7 thousand eye drops are being sold in the city every day.
If the condition of the eyes remains the same, the sale of medicine can reach 25 to 30 crores. With the huge sales going on in the market now, the GST department has also become alert and is keeping a close eye on the returns of the stores near the eye doctors besides the stores. An official said, yes, the way the sales are going, it will take one to one and a half months to get the returns, so the true figure of the sales will be known only then. But according to the input from the doctors now, the disease is very widespread and other medicines are being sold along with the eye drops.
Disease more in children and elderly
Head of Eye Department Dr. Preeti Kapadia said that there has been an increase in eye cases in the city. Being a viral infection, it spreads very quickly. Conjunctivitis is caused by many viruses such as AD virus, echo virus, cocci virus and flu. Currently, this disease is seen in children along with older people. Currently, conjunctivitis cases have increased due to the infection of this ‘adeno virus’. Usually this virus spreads very quickly. Contact with someone who has an infected eye, touching hands or touching objects can also cause the disease.

Advice to check with a doctor
Currently, if people see red eyes, they should contact a doctor immediately. Once they meet the doctor they should get their eyes checked. If any member of the house has eye contact, medicine must be taken and the condition of eye contact lasts from five days to a week.
Big stock coming, drops up to Rs.200
Lalubhai, a medical storekeeper, said that the sale of 10 drops has increased to 100. The prices of different companies are different. But a 5 ml bottle of a branded company costs Rs. 200 is available. Its sales are highest. Also the average cost of others is between 20 to 30. Antibiotics are also being sold along with this. Experts in the medical field say that the drops are in demand at many medical stores in the city. Sources at the Medical Stores Association say sales have picked up and are up more than 15 percent.
Medical stores and companies will be devastated
A medical store owner said that more than 10 lakh drops are being sold in the city every day. As the prevalence of the disease increases, so will this figure. Along with this, most of the patients to general physicians or eye doctors are also concerned about eye diseases. Along with the medicine, people are also paying the consultancy fees of the doctors in a big way.
Even in Bhavnagar, the eye disease took over
In Bhavnagar city and district, eye lice virus is spreading very fast. It is also known by people as Akhiya Mila or disease. This infectious eye disease has also taken hold in children. So, as a precautionary measure, the children who have come under the grip of this virus or are affected by it are also given leave. But this AD virus is spreading as fast as Corona was before. An infectious eye disease that usually occurs during the monsoon season has also taken hold in Bhavnagar city and district.
Infection of eye disease more in school colleges
This AD virus has the property to spread very quickly. If the person who has this eye disease comes in contact with the person directly or through the things that have touched him, he also gets this AD virus. Due to which eye diseases are seen in large numbers in schools and colleges.
Over 50 percent increase in OPD also
Due to the spread of AD virus in large groups of children in schools, children are also given leave from school and advised not to come to school until it is cured. But currently, the disease of eye heel virus is spreading from house to house. Ophthalmologists find more than 50 percent lines of eye disease patients in the OPD there. Thus, due to continuous rains, the city of Bhavnagar has been affected by eye disease which is considered contagious.
It clears up on its own within a few days
Ocular Adi virus is more prevalent in rainy monsoon climate. The virus enters through the eyes or nose of a person who comes into contact with an infected patient. AD virus is usually cleared in five to seven days depending on the immune system. The patient and the people who are in contact with him must take special care so that the virus does not spread further. – Dr. Harish Trivedi, Surgeon, Department of Ophthalmology, Sir T. Hospital
