When more than 5,000 people in Porbandar district were shifted to pre-arranged shelter houses by the district administration within hours after the disaster of Cyclone Biparjoy, several organizations in Porbandar district prepared meals and food packets within hours to provide them with food. It has been the impression of Porbandar district that the nameless organizations join hands with the disaster management system and end up among the affected.
As the forecast of Cyclone Biparjoy in Porbandar district and its impact was confirmed, people living in crude houses and huts including children were shifted to the shelter houses designated by the administration. On the first day on June 13, 1000 people, followed by 3,000 on the second day and 5,000 on the third day were evacuated by the administration in a matter of hours. In order to get all these people hot food, breakfast and tea-water and milk and biscuits to the children, the organizations of Porbandar district, the organizations of Porbandar district have shown inspiring public participation to come out of this calamity by contributing with their heart and money. The district administration has also thanked the NGO for this social responsibility.
District Supply Officer Hiral Desai was coordinating this operation under the guidance of District Collector KD Lakhani. He said that 67 times grain was delivered on the first day by the government system at the permanent cyclone centers of Porbandar district. 5000 packets were also given by industries. 15750 kg of wheat and 10,500 kg of rice and raw material as well as potatoes, onions, vegetables, pulses, oil, pepper and spices were also provided by other organizations at more than 95 locations. Hot meals were also provided by organizations in the Porbandar Municipality area. Apart from this, various organizations including religious organizations in Ranawav and Kutiyana areas also made 15000 feet packets in the district and gave them to the affected people through the administrative system. Milk pouches and drinking water were also arranged. Some shelters are also providing ready-made food packet kits so that people do not have to cook tonight while returning from shelter houses.
