A co-branded G-20 event was organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India at New Delhi. In which a total of 25 projects were selected for exhibition from across the country, including ‘Kishori Swabhiman Project’ of Valsad district of Gujarat state. Gujarat Government was represented in this event by Valsad DDO Manish Gurwani (IAS) and District RCH Officer Dr. a. K. was done by Sindh. Under this project, facilities of sanitary pad vending machines and disposable machines for disposal of used sanitary pads have been made available in approximately 500 government schools of Valsad district for the purpose of taking care of hygiene during menstruation.
The cost of purchasing these machines and installing them in schools has been done under the 15th Finance Commission and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and sanitary pads will be provided regularly from the grant of “National Adolescent Health Program (RKSK)” which has been ensured. In all these schools programs are also held by the Health Branch for awareness about menstruation. Thus, this project will benefit approximately 25,000 children studying in these 500 schools.
Under this project, one nodal teacher and one health worker have been appointed in each school. Both the departments (Education and Health) of the Zilla Panchayat will coordinate the maintenance, servicing and provision of sanitary pads for both the machines. Valsad District Panchayat has expressed full confidence. That this project will increase confidence among girls, increase awareness about menstruation and also improve school attendance of girls. He also expressed his gratitude for the cooperation of Zilla Panchayat Valsad President and all members for making provision from the 15th Finance Commission grant for the project.
