Saurashtra has by far the highest groundnut cultivation in Gujarat at 12.53 lakh hectares; Fear of crop damage due to heavy rain

In Gujarat this year, as the monsoon started on time, the Kharif planting has also been good as the farmers have sown on time. However, in many places in Saurashtra, more than normal rainfall is causing fear of erosion in the groundnut crop. During this monsoon in Saurashtra, the districts including Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Surendranagar are receiving heavy rains, and groundnuts are planted more in all these areas. According to the statistics of the Agriculture Department, Saurashtra has so far planted the highest 12.53 lakh hectares in Gujarat.

Groundnut production is likely to decrease
The Gujarat State Edible Oils and Oil Seeds Association has written to the state government indicating the possibility of widespread damage to the groundnut crop due to rains. Samir Shah, president of the association, has said that groundnut production may be reduced in the eroded areas. Winter crops can also be planted after Diwali. If groundnut planting is reduced, it may also have a direct impact on the price of single oil in the new season. To overcome this situation, we suggest that the government should distribute groundnut seeds wherever the plantation has failed.

Fear of crop erosion among farmers
In Saurashtra, districts including Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, and Dwarka Bhavnagar have received heavy to very heavy rain. Groundnut is traditionally the most cultivated in this area. Flood-like conditions occurred in these districts during the month of July. Because of this, the farmers are fearing the erosion of the groundnut crop. It is worth mentioning that groundnut has been sown in 12.53 lakh hectares in Saurashtra this time. Of these, 2.26 lakh hectares have been planted in Rajkot, 2 lakh hectares in Dwarka, 1.92 lakh hectares in Junagadh and 1.50 lakh hectares in Amreli.
