  • In 7 panchayats, administrators have been under the rule for 10 months, administrators have been placed in 35 panchayats

The term of 42 Gram Panchayats of Navsari district has been completed but as new elections are not yet announced, administrators have to be appointed in all of them. The election was held a year or so ago after the term of more than two hundred village panchayats in Navsari district was completed. According to the information, the terms of 35 gram panchayats of the district have been completed one after another in March 2023, in which taluka-wise there are 2 panchayats in Navsari, 3 in Jalalpore, 10 in Gandevi, 2 in Chikhli and 18 panchayats in Vasda.

Despite the completion of the term, fresh elections have not been announced. Due to this, administrators have to be appointed in all the said panchayats. What is more noteworthy is that the term of 7 Gram Panchayats ended last April and May 2022, which elections have not been conducted even after 10 to 11 months. In this situation, even in the said 7 Gram Panchayats, the administrator has been ruling for a long time for the routine administration. The next general election is eagerly awaited in the said villages.

According to the information, such a situation did not occur in the past. Before the end of the term of the Panchayat or at that time, announcements of new elections would be made and the uncertainty would end.

The reason for the impasse on the OBC reservation issue?
The reason for the delay in the Gram Panchayat elections is the impasse over the OBC reservation issue. According to the Supreme Court order, a commission has been constituted for OBC reservation in local self-government elections. However, the decision of the commission has not come yet, so it is getting delayed.
