Any law graduate who wants to join the legal profession must register with the Bar Council of Gujarat. And then passing the All India Bar Exam is also mandatory. As per the enrollment rules of the Bar Council of India, a person enrolling as a lawyer should not be engaged in any kind of employment, business or profession at the time of registration.

Every year about 5 thousand to 5.5 thousand lawyers are registered in the Bar Council of Gujarat. Verification of mark sheets of each registering legislator is also made mandatory,

Bar Council All Gujarat Enrollment Committee members Dipen Dave, Mukesh Kamdar and Disciplinary Committee Chairman Anil Kella met today in a meeting where 440 applications were taken up for enrollment. Out of which 405 applications have been approved. In the remaining 40 applications it is decided to inform the applicants to fill up the missing details.

It has come to the attention of the Enrollment Committee of Bar Council Gujarat that according to the rules of the Bar Council of India, no lawyer can actively work in any job, business or profession during the practice of law. Also cannot be employed in a law college as a permanent faculty member. However, some legislators are also serving as permanent professors in various law universities and law colleges of Gujarat in addition to the legal profession. All such legislators have been ordered to submit their credentials within 30 days.

It has also been ordered to call for details of permanent and part-time professors from all law universities and law colleges of Gujarat. If any legislator is found to be employed as a permanent professor in addition to the profession of lawyer, it is decided to take necessary action against him as per Section-35 of the Advocates Act, 1961.

It is worth mentioning that the Bar Council of India has not renewed the accreditation of three legendary law colleges and a total of 8 law colleges in Ahmedabad. In which also the issue of number of professors is the main one. In which the admission process of law colleges affiliated to Gujarat University was stuck. The hearing in this regard is going on in the Gujarat High Court.
