Importers-exporters keep an eye on the perennial Bhavnagar port. During the monsoon, ports including Magdalla in South Gujarat are closed, and their traffic is diverted to Bhavnagar Port. Despite its potential, Bhavnagar Port is limited to two ships at a time. , imports of limestone and exports of salt remain. Coal ships also arrive at Magdalla port.

Magdalla is closed during monsoon. Its traffic can come to Bhavnagar port. But at Bhavnagar anchorage point only two ships are allowed due to lack of anchorage point where ships can operate safely. Hydrography and nautical survey of Bhavnagar port has not been done for years. If the survey is done, more safe points can be found and more cargo ships can be brought to Bhavnagar port.
