- Natural Disaster Again In Devbhoomi After Biporjoy; Ninety Seven Inches Of Torrential Rain Disrupted Life, Rivers Overflowed

Devabhoomi Dwarka district had an unabated meghraja today and several places witnessed flash floods with 2 to 10 inches of rain falling in all parts of the district. Even the larger reservoirs have now yielded significant amounts of new neer. Dwarka was hit by a torrential downpour of seven and a half inches of rain in a span of two hours.
Due to heavy rains, the sea also became rough
In Devbhoomi Dwarka taluk today, the rain which started light in the morning intensified in the afternoon and a whopping seven and a half inches (183 millimetres) of water fell in the period between 4 and 6 pm alone. Along with this, 239 mm of water rained in Dwarka by this evening, many areas of Dwarka were flooded. Due to the torrential rains, the residents of this area had to face a lot of trouble as water filled the water in various areas including Gurdwara area of Dwarka, ISKCON Gate, Totadri Math. However, after six o’clock in the evening, the force of rain weakened a little. Scenes were seen where the sea has also gone crazy due to heavy rains.
Rivers were seen on two banks
Due to today’s heavy rains, the rivers in the rural areas appeared to have gone mad and the rivers were seen on both banks as if they were overflowing. Four major dams in the district namely Veradi-1, Meensar (Va) Irrigation Scheme, Vartu-1 and Kabarka were inundated by the rains.
Flood-like situation in Dwarka
In Khambhaliya and Dwarka Panthak, as if there were twelve clouds, the Ghodapur of rivers were seen rushing into the rural areas. In Bhatia village of Kalyanpur taluk, rain water entered the shops amidst a water bomb like situation. Due to which the traders had to face a lot of trouble. Dwarka-Bhatia highway faced a lot of trouble for motorists due to waterlogging. Traffic was affected on the Khambhalia-Porbandar highway due to floods in the rivers. Today in the villages of Vadatra, Samor, Gunda of Bhanwad taluka, Bhatia, Lamba, Satapar of Nawagam Kalyanpur taluka, villages including Vadtra, Samor of Khambhaliya taluka, all the small water sources have become dry due to torrential rains of 4 to 6 inches and water income like Ghodapur was seen in the big dam.
3 feet of new water income in Ghee Dam
Even in Ghee Dam, which supplies water to the city of Khambhalia, the level of Ghee Dam has reached 14 feet with about 3 feet of new water coming in from today’s rain. The rain had eased from this evening.
Megh Mehr across the district
Along with this, there was widespread cloud cover in Khambhalia today and 5.5 inches (130 millimetres) of rain fell during the day with a series of heavy showers continuing unabated. Along with this, Kalyanpur taluka also received significant rainfall from 10 am and 4 inches (100 millimetres) of rain fell by evening. A total of one and a half inches (36 millimeters) of rain has fallen in Bhanwad Panthak today.
Along with this, the total rainfall of the season is 839 millimeters in Khambhalia, 634 millimeters in Dwarka, 418 millimeters in Bhanwad and 469 millimeters in Kalyanpur, with the total average rainfall in the district reaching 24 inches.
Due to heavy rain some trains passing through Rajkot railway division were affected
Due to heavy rains in Rajkot division yesterday, rail traffic has been affected in Okha-Bhatia section. On July 20, 2023, some areas of Saurashtra like Okha, Dwarka, Bhatia have received about 176 mm of rain till evening. Bhatia-Okhamdi and Okhamdi-Gorinza railway tracks were washed away due to heavy rains, affecting rail operations. A Monsoon Reserve Stock Special train was dispatched from Hapa at 19.15 hours to repair the tracks in the washed away areas as soon as the track was reported washed away. This special train has a total of 20 wagons in which track repairing materials like boulder stone, ballast, stone dust etc. have been sent so that the track repairing work can be completed at the earliest.
Railways are providing all possible assistance to passengers at all stations of the division. The situation is being closely monitored by the Divisional Railway Administration. The control room at Rajkot of the division is on alert. Railway track is being monitored and repair work is going on continuously on war footing. All possible efforts are being made by the Railway Administration to run the trains on time. According to Rajkot Division Senior DCM Sunil Kumar Meena, some trains have been cancelled, short terminated or rescheduled due to this situation, the details of which are as follows.
Canceled trains
1) Train No. 19252 Okha-Veraval Express was canceled on 20.07.2023.
2) Train No. 09480 Okha-Rajkot Special was canceled on 20.07.2023.
3) Train No. 19571 Rajkot-Porbandar Express will be canceled on 21.07.2023.
4) Train No. 09511 Palitana-Bhavnagar Special commencing on 21.07.2023 will remain cancelled.
5) Train No. 09512 Bhavnagar-Palitana Special commencing on 21.07.2023 will remain cancelled.
6) Train No. 19209 Bhavnagar – Okha Express will be canceled on 21.07.2023.
7) Train No. 19251 Veraval-Okha Express will be canceled on 21.07.2023.
8) Train No. 19572 Porbandar-Rajkot Express will be canceled on 21.07.2023.
Short terminated (partially cancelled) trains
1) Train No. 19210 Okha-Bhavnagar Express dated 20.07.2023 has been short terminated at Dwarka. Thus this train was partially canceled between Dwarka-Bhavnagar.
2) Train No. 22906 Shalimar-Okha Express dated 18.07.2023 has been short-terminated at Journey Khambhalia. Thus, this train has been partially canceled between Khambhalia – Okha.
Rescheduled trains
1) Train No. 19568 Okha-Tuticorin Vivek Express will depart from Okha on 21.07.2023 instead of its regular timing of 00.55 hrs late by 1 hour and 5 minutes i.e. at 02.00 hrs on 21.07.2023.
