The 1.2 km long bridge over the Narmada River in Bharuch City is all set to become the longest bridge on the 508 km bullet train corridor. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited has projected the bridge to be completed by June 2024. All 20 bridges under construction across various rivers will be completed by June 2024.
Pramod Sharma, Principal Executive Director, NHSRCL, said that with the adoption of the latest technology, the construction time will take almost half the time compared to the construction of any river bridge. It is expected to be completed by 2024. Sharma was also part of the team that built the Jammu-Udhampur-Katra project. According to NHSRCL, a total of 20 bridges are being constructed under the project. The bullet train will cross rivers like Narmada, Sabarmati, Mahi, Par, Kaveri, Purna Ambika, Darotha, Daman Ganga, Kolak, Mindhola, Anuraga, and Kharera.
Among Tapi, Keem, Dhadhar, Vishwamitri, Mahi, Vatrak, and Meshwa, the longest bridge will be built over Narmada followed by Tapi and Mahi which will be around 720 meters. The target is to complete the construction of all the bridges by June 2024. For the purpose of construction of wells within the Narmada river course (water wells), two eight-meter wide temporary access bridges with a gap of 60 meters between them have been constructed to allow navigation. The Narmada River has a tidal effect and can affect construction on the river. Therefore a temporary access bridge has been constructed at a certain height to overcome the effect of rising water levels during monsoon. Now working around the clock.
India’s first bullet train corridor- trial run on the Gujarat section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will begin in 2026. However, the services for the public will be launched by the year 2027. The maximum working speed of the train will be 320 Kmph.
