Kakasaheb Kalelkar Smriti National Encouragement Award-2022 has been awarded to the writer-editor Heleendra Patel for achievements and encouragement in the field of literature. He was conferred with this prestigious honor at an inaugural seminar held at the Gandhi Hindustani Sahitya Sabha Institute in Delhi on Saturday. In this honor dedicated to the memory of Kakasaheb Kalelkar and Vishnu Prabhakar, a shawl-symbol and letter of appreciation were given.

Dignitaries such as Gyanendra Rawat, founder of Gandhian thought, Ramesh Sharma, Kusum Shah, President of Vishwa Samnaviya Sangh, Vice President Atul Kumar Prabhakar, General Minister Abhinav Acharya and Minister Rajkumar were present on this occasion. Six other talents were awarded the Vishnu Prabhakar Samman at the event. Selamendra Patel has been working as the Gujarati Language Editor at the National Book Trust, India, a leading book publishing and dissemination organization of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for the past three decades. He has been active in spreading the habit of book-reading along with editing more than 500 books, translating around 100 and writing-contributions in stories-articles-poems etc.

Apart from this, he is a seasoned talent as a painter, orator, playwright-director, actor and voice-artist. He was born and brought up in a farming family in Bhinar village of Vansada in South Gujarat. He completed his college education working in painting at Surat after receiving his primary and secondary education working in a tea-snack shop with the struggle of rural conditions.

He has achieved a masterful balance between struggle and perseverance. He has played a big and important role in the field of literature creation and dissemination in the role of Mooksevak. He was earlier awarded the Gujarati Vidwan Samman from Surya Sansthan, Noida in the year 2006 and made his native Bhinar proud by receiving the Kalelkar Sahitya Samman.
