In Sayla town of Surendranagar district, severe water problem arose due to emptying of Thoriyali dam for drinking water. But the outlying villages of Chotila and Saila get enough water from the dam to last the city for 1 year with the onset of the rainy season. With 15 feet of water level seen in the dam, the city has ended its dire drinking water problem.
Thoriyali Dam is the only source of drinking water to Saila city. The problem of drinking water has been alleviated by receiving 15 feet of water in a dam with a surface of 20 feet. Gram Panchayat distributes water according to population and area of Saila. In which one zone gets enough water by distributing 5 lakh liters of water in 10 days.
Last year due to insufficient capacity in Thoriyali Dam, the city was seeing water below the dam as water was released for drinking and irrigation purposes. And at the beginning of summer the scramble for drinking water began. But in the beginning of the rainy season, especially in the outer villages of Chotila and Saila, 15 feet of water has been received in the dam due to good rains.
Irrigation water is released through 2 canals for the crops of Sayla, Chuda, Wadwan taluk farmers. Due to erosion, summer heat and water theft in the dam, the 6.70 feet reserve water volume is not seen in real summer. Sarpanch Ajay Singh Jhala said that the water problem is getting worse.
