Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ has caused heavy damage in Saurashtra-Kutch. Farmers have also suffered in Kovaya village of Rajula on the sea coast of Amreli district. Farmer Bhikha Badhabhai Lakhnotra of Kovaya village had 31 bigha of horticulture plantain plantation, however, due to heavy wind and rain before the plantain was harvested, thousands of plantains were blown away and most of the plantains fell down, causing great distress to the farmer.
A natural calamity has turned water on the farmer’s whole year’s hard work. Due to which the farmer has sought help from the state government. 31 Bigha of land has suffered huge loss as most of the plantains fell down. On the other hand, Agaon Taute also suffered extensive damage due to the cyclone. After which the farmers were barely able to get up, the farmers are faced with disaster again. Due to natural calamities, huge economic losses have been caused. The farmer has demanded that the state government urgently conduct a survey and pay appropriate compensation.
Farmer Bhikhabhai Lakhnotra said that we were in a similar situation during the Taute storm and all the plantains fell. Winds were blowing heavily in this storm. Because of which all these plantains have fallen, there are many such farmers in this area. Only if the government conducts a survey and helps the farmers, the farmers of this area can sit again.
Rajula Taluka Panchayat President Mithabhai Lakhnotra said that the farmers of our area have suffered a lot. A farmer’s plantain planted in 31 bighas has all fallen. I have informed the system telephonically. On Monday, we are going to present to the district collector and the government including the MLA so that the farmers get proper justice.
