In the first rains, a flood situation occurred in Padar Paliya of Kumbhariya village

The rain has already created a flood situation in Surat. Besides Surat city, heavy rains in the district have overflowed the creek passing through the city and water is entering the village. A flood situation has occurred in the low-lying areas near the bay of Kumbhariya village on the outskirts of Surat. Out of the 50 houses in Padar Faliya of Kumbharia village, 25 to 30 houses have been flooded. Due to which the condition of 200 to 250 people has become very miserable. Some of them spent the night in nearby schools and wadis.

Due to lack of proper drainage, the earlier rains have started the creek flooding. At that time, the locals have alleged that the municipal system has not even come to inquire about our condition and has not made any arrangements. Leaders work only for the rich.

The creek is passing through areas including Kumbharia, Puna, Limbayat from Sania Hemad village of Surat city. At that time, due to heavy rainfall in the upper talukas and villages of Surat city, creek floods have occurred every year. In the low-lying areas around the creek, the creek water seeps into the houses. However, flooding occurs every year when extremely heavy rains fall. But this time the condition of bay flooding has been created in the first rain. In Kumbhariya village on the outskirts of Surat, the creek waters have receded in the low-lying areas.

Flood situation in 50 houses
Due to torrential rains in Surat district for two days, the creek passing through the city is overflowing. Due to which the waters of the creek have entered Padar Paliya and Halpati Vas of Kumbharia village. Residents of around 50 houses living here are facing the flood situation. Out of 50 houses, 25 to 30 houses have been flooded.

The roads leading to the house were closed
Houses in Padar Faliya and Halpati Vas of Kumbharia village have been flooded. Water started entering this village after the creek overflowed last evening. Gradually, the water entered the houses till the mud. The situation of the locals became very dire as the water suddenly receded. Houses were submerged in water and roads leading to their homes were also blocked as the water receded.

Floods have been occurring every year for the past few years
Locals said, every year for the last few years we have to face flood conditions. There is no way of proper disposal of water here by the Surat Municipal Corporation system. Earlier, no matter how much rain came, never so much water entered the village of Khadi. But over the past few years, due to the filling up of the creek and lack of proper drainage, the water seeps into the houses. Even though the municipal system has all the information, they do not take any action.

A nearby school, a night spent on the road
It became difficult for them to stay in the houses as water entered the houses of Padar Paliya of Kumbhariya village. Locals said, we closed the house and left as the water entered the houses. Neither the municipal officials nor any leader came to inquire about our condition or take care of us. After the infiltration of water started, there was a problem of living and eating.

Leaders work only for the rich
Locals further said that some of us have spent the night on the road and some in a nearby school or wadi. Neither the municipal government nor the leaders have thought of any arrangement for our migration. Leaders work only for the rich. It does not even ask to take care of the condition of the poor like us. Leaders come only to seek votes. But when trouble hits us, we don’t even stand up.

Hollow claims of the municipal system
Every year the Surat Municipal Corporation makes a very loud announcement that the system has made all preparations to prevent creek flooding as part of pre-monsoon operations. None of the creeks will be flooded in any village. But when the rains start, all the claims of the municipality are proved hollow. This year too, the rains have yet to start and the first rains have raised questions against the claims of the municipality that the creek water is entering the houses.
