The accreditation of three grant-in-aid colleges LA Shah Law College, MN Nanavati Law College and IM Nanavati Law College affiliated to the famous Gujarat Law Society of Ahmedabad has not been renewed by the Bar Council of India. Hence, a special civil application was filed in the High Court by these three colleges through Senior Advocate Sudhir Nanavati.

BCI members who will come to Gujarat will tell the list
In the previous hearing, Advocate Manan Shah on behalf of the Bar Council of India submitted that the members of the apex body of the Bar Council of India will come to Gujarat. Who will meet with the Gujarat government and the parties involved in this case. In which BCI’s advocate Manan Shah will tell the list and date of BCI members who will come to Gujarat.

Representation of non-faculty as per BCI rule
As per the BCI law regulation for quality education, a law college should not have more than 60 students in a division. For which four permanent faculty and one principal are required. BCI can make rules for quality education in law under Advocate Act 24(1). It may be mentioned that it was submitted that the applicant grant in aid colleges do not have faculty as per BCI rule.

Meeting between Gujarat Government and Law Colleges
However, in yesterday’s hearing, Advocate Manan Shah on behalf of BCI said that he has spoken to the Bar Council of Indiana. If a meeting is held between Gujarat Government and Law Colleges and the proposal is sent to BCI, then BCI will agree to it. A decision can be taken after the BCI approves grant-in-aid law colleges to carry out academic work this year.

Why don’t you call your committee member?
However, it was stated by the court that this question will arise every year and its practical solution is necessary. Also, when the court asked about Manan saying that BCI members will come to Gujarat in the previous hearing, Manan Shah said that the Chairman of the Legal Education Committee of BCI is a retired judge of the Supreme Court, M.R. Shah. How can we request them to come here? On which the court said why don’t you call your committee member? What is wrong with that?

Students, find a way not to trouble the colleges
The court said that if you want the intervention of the court in your rules then the court has the power to do so. Find a way so that students, colleges or BCI are not inconvenienced. In this society, many students come from economically weaker sections, has BCI thought about them? Those who cannot pay the high fees study with government grants. A grant can be sought from the government for quality of education as per your rule. But law college is like any other college. It is not a medical college where you have to work for a few years with the government after studying, so that the government gives more grants in education expenses. So the government should give more grants just for the sake of your rule?

How to pay the annual fee of 75 thousand rupees?
The government and the courts are ready for the road. So what’s wrong with BCI? Just think of big cities like Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara for students coming here from other places. They don’t have money. How will they pay the annual fee of 75 thousand rupees? Do you want legal education to be restricted to the elite? Only those who have money can study law by paying fees?

The court has ordered the BCI to find the right way in this matter. Further hearing on this issue will be conducted on July 03, Monday.
