In the year 2015, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chotaudepur Vadodara and Vadodara rural colleges were separated from Gujarat University by the then Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and Shree Govind Guru University was established in Panchmahal.

The main objective of setting up a new university in Panchmahal is that the students of Khewada do not have to travel to Ahmedabad for college work and all the facilities of the college work are available nearby, which saves time and money.

Three graduation ceremonies have been held by the university. The fourth graduation ceremony of the university is going to be held on June 26 with the advice and guidance of the chancellor of the university, Pratap Singh Chaihan, in the presence of all parliament members and MLAs of five districts including P.P. Moraribapu and minister, Rishikesh Patel, R.K. In which a total of 13810 students have applied for higher education certificate. In the ceremony, 4075 students will be given certificates of higher education and 44 students will be given gold medals.

The University has started all the preparations including the arrival of a large number of students and uninvited guests and dignitaries in the degree conferment ceremony.
