The work of Dwarka-Somnath National Highway has left defects at many places. While the common man has to suffer, due to the negligence of the authorities on the highway from Madhavpur to Miani, rain water has entered the fields due to lack of drains to pass the water flow, causing huge damage to the crops.

Porbandar Congress leader Ramdevbhai Modhwadia has said in his submission to the National Highway Authority that the design of the Dwarka Somnath National Highway built at a cost of crores of rupees has serious flaws.

Many farmers’ fields where the National Highway touches the land of the farmers’ fields have been cut off. So, from Madhavpur to Miani, the rain water has returned to the ground in many places due to which the farmers’ valuable crops have been submerged in water. Drains should be constructed to carry water runoff in these National Highways where roads are blocked due to which this water cannot be drained away.

So the crops are submerged due to inundation of rain water inside the fields. Apart from that, the soil is also being eroded on a large scale. Farmers have built a wall to protect the crops, but the water seeps into the soil from under that wall and erodes the soil.

Demand to compensate the farmers by surveying the damages
As the rainwater is not drained, it has turned over sorghum and other crops including groundnut. So the crop is submerged in water and despite spending a lot of money including expensive seeds, the earthling doesn’t seem to get any special yield. The Congress has called upon the government to help the farmers by conducting an immediate damage survey by stating that the National Highway Authority is solely responsible for creating a situation where the crops fail the farmers this year.
