As soon as Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ made landfall on the coast of Gujarat, storm was seen in water, land and air. Trees, electricity poles and hoardings were uprooted at several places due to strong winds and rains along Saurashtra-Kutch coast. A huge ship was also seen overturned at the port of Kutch. Due to the storm, electricity poles were knocked down in many areas and many villages were left in darkness at night. Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ reminded the people of Kutch of the 25-year-old Kandla cyclone.
Due to ‘Bipperjoy’, ugly scenes were created
Scenes of devastation began to emerge as soon as the ‘Biparjoy’ storm, which was feared, made landfall on the coast of Gujarat. The sea of Mundra became a raging storm in the district of Kutch. Due to strong winds, roofs of houses were blown off in Kotda village of Kutch, while the entrance gate of Sujapar village of Abdasa was destroyed. Many Kharek trees were uprooted in Kutch due to strong winds. There was blackout in many areas due to the collapse of the power pole.
What did the weather department say?
Ahmedabad Meteorological Department Director Manorama Mohanty said that the ‘Biparjoy’ cyclone has already started making landfall. Which will continue till midnight. The wind speed at full landfall is likely to be 125 kmph. The storm will become a cyclonic storm in the morning. Wind speed will decrease thereafter and wind speed will decrease further on Friday evening. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in Kutch, Morbi, Banaskantha and Patan on Friday while normal rain in other districts.
Holiday declared on Friday in the schools of this district including Kutch
In view of the possible impact of the cyclone, two more days of holiday have been declared in the schools and colleges of Kutch. Now academic work will be completely closed till June 17. Holiday has been declared in Government, Granted, Non-Granted Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges. However, the principal and staff will have to compulsorily attend the headquarters. Apart from this, a holiday has also been declared today in schools of Ahmedabad, Kheda, Patan, Banaskantha, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Navsari, Sabarkantha.
All temples of Saurashtra-Kutch closed on Friday including Somnath-Dwarka
Due to Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’, heavy to very heavy rain is likely over Saurashtra-Kutch coast today. It has been decided to keep all temples including first Jyoortiling Somnath, Dwarka, Kagawad Khodaldham closed for visitors tomorrow.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Class-II Exam to be held on June 19 Postponed
Gujarat Public Service Commission – GPSC through Advertisement No. 12/2022-23, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Grade-R Main Examination (Written) dt. It was planned to be held on 19, 21 and 23 June 2023, but in view of Cyclone Biparjoy in the state, the examination paper-1 and 2 scheduled to be held on 19-June-2023 has been postponed. While the examination paper-3, 4 and 5 on 21st and 23rd June 2023 have been kept unchanged. Regarding the postponed examination, the date will be announced by the commission soon on the website of the commission, the list of Joint Secretary, Gujarat Public Service Commission, Gandhinagar for the concerned candidates to note.
The Chief Minister held a high-level meeting and reviewed the situation
After the cyclone made landfall on the coast of Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting in Gandhinagar on Thursday evening to get the details of the action taken by the administration of the 8 districts that are likely to be affected against the possible severe effects of the cyclone. District Collectors have been instructed to estimate the preliminary loss as soon as the impact of the storm is over. The system was also instructed to prepare to provide assistance such as cash doll, home demolition, hut assistance, animal assistance to the affected. Special instructions have been given to the system to ensure that the injured animals get proper treatment immediately and arrange for proper disposal of animal dead bodies. In the districts of Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Rajkot and Gir Somnath, removal of fallen trees and repair of power poles are being carried out by the system.
Banaskantha and Patan districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains for the next day or two following this storm. In view of this possibility, the administration of these two districts have been instructed to be vigilant with necessary arrangements and provide details to the State Control Room every hour. Not only this, about a thousand people from low-lying areas in Patan district have been shifted to a safe place.
Rajkot Division trains affected due to storm
In view of cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ in Gujarat, Western Railway has decided to partially cancel some trains as a precautionary measure in cyclone prone areas. Apart from this, various safety and security precautions are also being taken by the Western Railway for the train passengers of these potential areas falling under the jurisdiction of Rajkot Division. The details of these trains are as follows.
