With the aim of ‘Ek Kadam Swachhta Ki Or’, a group of vendors from Bhuj, through the Street Vendors Committee, has started the work of setting up a vending zone a month ago. As a result, the students of the University of Mumbai have designed five zones and efforts are being made to implement them soon. The five zones are Ankarwala Circle, Vaniyawad Bus Stand, Hospital Road, Ekta Chowk, Bhidgate.

After the success of the vending zone near Bhuj Haat, the joint effort of Hunnar School Foundation and Bhuj Municipality to create a vending zone by consolidating the empty snack trucks in the city into one clean and amenity-rich place is showing results. The design is ready for a month’s work. In this regard, a meeting has also been arranged on the next 25th. Hunnarsala Foundation, in collaboration with Bhuj Municipality, organized a month-long vending zone design with 15 students from School of Environment and Architecture (SEA), Mumbai.

In consultation with ward wise councilors of the municipality for various vending zones of Bhuj city. Street vendors from selected zones participated. The proposed design aims to solve various issues like traffic congestion, waste management etc. and provide space for street vendors to earn their livelihood and support their families. The designs created by the students will help in the beautification of Bhuj city in the long run and also provide walkable public spaces for citizens. The entire process is coordinated by the members of Bhuj City Street Vendors Federation (Bhuj City Street Vendors Association).

Students worked on five different vending zones across the city, and created different designs. A demonstration will be held on July 25 at Lohana Mahajan Wadi-Katira Party Plot at 10:30 am to discuss the design with stakeholders and all citizens of Bhuj.
