The colorful flowers, the chirping of birds, the hidden stars playing with the moon in the midnight sky, the soft coolness of the mountains in the dim light of the setting sun, the human eye worshiping the infinite” one day merges into the divine. There is a sequence of nature from the beginning to the end. Every human being respects, A virtuous philanthropist yearns for a death that beautifies the soul with honor, wealth, health and magnificence of splendour. To attain such divinity, human beings go in search of good deeds and during the search, with the help of modern researched science, they get the opportunity to donate organs even after death.
‘Donate eyes after death and see the world even after death’
Himmatnagar Civil RMO NM Shah says. That, June 10 is celebrated as Chakshudan Day to understand and promote the importance of Chakshudan. Eye donation is essential to remove blindness from across India. 1011 eye donations have been accepted in the district since 1995. The number is still very less than the requirement. Hence it is necessary to create awareness about eye donation and motivate people towards organ donation. I have also applied for organ donation including eye donation after my death. Hence an appeal to the public of the district that everyone come and donate eyes after death to see the world even after death.
‘I have witnessed the eye donation process of 1011 people’
Says Yogiraj Joshi, a nurse at Himmatnagar Civil in Sabarkantha. That, I have been serving in the civil service for the last 31 years and have been associated with eye donation operations. Till date I have witnessed more than 36 thousand cataract operations and 1011 post-mortem eye donation procedures. So far 57 body donations have been accepted at Civil. If I get a chance for this work even after retirement, I am ready for such meritorious work.
Chakshudan should be done within 6 hours at the latest
Science says that the transparent layer at the front of our eye called the cornea can be kept alive even after our death. Anyone of any age, caste, or blood group, from children to the elderly, can undergo chakshudan. The process of removing the dead man’s eyes is completed in just 5 to 7 minutes. For the success of Chakshudan operation, Chakshudan should be performed as soon as possible or at the latest within 6 hours after death.
Special care has to be taken of the eyes of the dead body
Donated eyes are placed in special sterile glass bottles and transported in an ice-filled thermos. Because the eyes need cold temperatures to preserve them until the operation. These bottles are kept in the fridge in the hospital. If the dead man’s eyes are left open and exposed to the wind, special care should be taken of the dead body’s eyes until the doctor arrives. Eyes, if left open, should be closed immediately. And a wet handkerchief should be placed over the closed eyes because if the eyes become dry, they get worse.
Chakshudan is nothing short of a miracle
Informing the eye bank or nearest eye doctor for eye donation after death arranges for immediate eye donation. Eye donation is a great donation. Chakshudan is nothing short of a miracle for a visionless man with life in his lap and dreams in his blind eyes. Organ donation is a precious opportunity to rejuvenate the living that is worth knowing and enjoying.
