The ABVP had proposed to the dean of Gotri Medical College to withdraw the drastic hike in medical graduation fees of the 13 GMERS colleges of the state and threatened a fierce agitation if the hike in fees was not withdrawn.

ABVP gave petition to Dean
The All India Students’ Council has stated in its application to the Dean that the admission process for the year 2023-24 has been started through a circular signed by the Chief Executive Officer, GMERS Society dated 20 July 2023.

Increase in fees in a single academic year is not eligible
Notification issued by Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society on 20/07/2023 in which the fees of 13 GMERS Medical Colleges of the State have been increased, from 3.30 lakhs to 5.50 lakhs in government quota, from 9 lakhs to 17 lakhs in management quota. How reasonable is the fee hike of 66.66% in government quota and 88.88% in management when the government has designed to provide quality education to students through GMERS? A fee increase in a single academic year does not seem appropriate and in the interest of the students.

Injustice with students
In Gujarat’s 13 GMERS districts, students have almost no other government medical colleges. Middle class students were looking for their future medical education only on the basis of these GMERS colleges but increasing the fees so much just by this circular is an unfair decision to the students. So bright students have to leave their state/country to get medical education in another state/country.

Request withdrawal of fee increase within 7 days

If the decision is not taken in the interest of the students, there will be no way out except for a fierce agitation, for which the government will be fully responsible.
