A woman originally from Surat’s Kamrej and living with her family in America for the past ten years died after a stone fell on her head during the Amarnath Yatra. It is worth mentioning that heavy rains and landslides have been happening on the Amarnath Yatra route for the past several days. This year, this is the third Gujarati Amarnath Yatri who has died during the journey due to various reasons.

Now the Amarnath Yatra has started. For which devotees are coming from home and abroad to perform Amarnath Yatra. Then for the last four-five days, there has been heavy rain and landslides on the route of Amarnath Yatra due to which thousands of devotees have been trapped. Urmila Ben Girish Kumar Modi, a native of Kamrej village in Surat district and settled in America with her family, now came to her hometown Kamrej. Who went to Amarnath Yatra with her husband through a tour travels. Then, due to a landslide, a stone hit him on the head and he died due to serious injuries.

Minister Kunvarji Halapati drew the attention of the government regarding the incident
After reporting the incident to the Legislative Assembly MLA and State Minister of the Government, Kunvarji Halapati, realizing the seriousness of the incident, immediately contacted the Chief Minister of the state, Bhupendra Patel, and made him aware of the incident. It has been learned that the body of deceased Urmilaben will be brought to Kamrej by air tomorrow. Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi has also come to the aid of this family.

The husband and wife came to India for six months
Regarding this incident, Alpeshbhai Modi, the brother of the deceased Urmilaben, said in a telephonic conversation with Divyabhaskar, that my brother Girish Kumar and sister-in-law Urmilaben came home a month and a half ago. They were to stay here for five-six months. Meanwhile, he decided to go on Amarnath Yatra. He left for Amarnath Yatra from Kamrej on July 5 last. In which my sister-in-law died due to a stone falling on her head during the journey. Efforts are being made to bring his dead body home.

Children include four daughters and one son
He added that my brother and sister-in-law had last settled in Tennessee, USA for ten years. They have four daughters and one son. His sons and daughters also live in America.

Third Gujarati Amarnath Yatri dies in a week
It may be mentioned here that this third Gujarati Amarnath Yatri has died in the last one week. Rajendra Bhatia (aged 58) of Vemali village in Vadodara died on July 9 due to extreme cold and oxygen depletion. While on July 13, Amarnath pilgrim Shilpaben Nareshbhai Dankhra of Sidsar village of Bhavnagar died at Lower Valley on the way. While today, Urmilaben of Kamaraj has died due to a stone falling on his head. This year, a total of 24 people have died in landslides, rain, cold and other accidents. The 62-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-metre-high cave temple in the South Kashmir Himalayas began on July 1 from Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district and will conclude on August 31.
