Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society of the state government has announced the MBBS course fees for the current academic year 2023-2024 of 13 private and semi-government medical colleges under GMERS. 17 lakh for management quota seats, 5.50 lakh for government quota seats and 25 thousand US dollars for NRI quota seats. This fee increase has been protested by ABVP. ABVP has appealed to Dean of GMERS Sola regarding this and proposed to reduce the fee.

GMERS issued a circular to deans of colleges regarding new fees
9.07 lakh in management quota, 22 thousand US dollars in NRI quota and 3.30 lakh in government quota in GMERS colleges earlier. In which the fee has been increased by 70 to 90 percent. GMERS has issued a circular to the deans of all medical colleges regarding the new fees. This fee is unaffordable to a common family, so ABVP has protested this matter today. The medical wing of ABVP has presented the matter to the dean of Sola GMERS Sola.

Such increase in fees is medical robbery
ABVP leader Umang Mojidra said that a fee hike of up to 10 percent is understandable, but a fee hike of 88 percent is not appropriate. How can poor and middle class students afford this fee hike? The government should withdraw this fee hike immediately as the counseling for admission to medical is going on. If the fee is to be increased, the government should announce it earlier, so that the parents can prepare themselves. We will submit to the government. If the fee increase is not withdrawn, agitation will be done. GMERS College was started so that children from poor and middle class families can become doctors but, increasing the fees like this, is medical robbery, which cannot be allowed.
