Meghraja made landfall in Morbi city late on Thursday night and 20 mm of rain fell between 8 and 12 in the night. However, around 2 o’clock in the night there was a sudden lightning storm in Morbi city and only between 2 and 4 an unprecedented 61 mm of rain fell. After midnight 2.5 inches of rain fell, the entire city was submerged in water by morning.

Due to the rains in the city, new neer came into the reservoir of Morbi. In Machhu 3 Dam of Morbi, the dam gates had to be opened due to inflow of 1676 cusecs of water in a single night. Early in the morning, the irrigation department opened 20 gates of Machhu3 dam up to 2 feet and released 1676 cusecs of water.

Amidst the claim of pre-monsoon operation of Morbi Municipality, all the main roads and low-lying areas of the city were flooded, while in different ward areas, pressure was put on the natural way of rainwater drainage, and most of the areas became waterlogged.

Hethwasana village on alert as Macchu 3 doors open
20 villages including Gor Khijdia, Vanalia, Sadulka, Mansar, Rawapar Nadi, Amar Nagar, Naranka, Gugan, Nagdawas, Bahadur Garh of Morbi taluka have been alerted and told not to enter the river due to the opening of the gates of Macchu 3 Dam.

There is a panic among the villagers as the Matelio river overflows
The Dhara popularly known as Matelia Dhara located at Dham Matel of the legendary Khodiyar Mataji in Wankaner taluk and having another significance and historical importance has overflowed due to heavy rains in the upper reaches. As a result of which, there has been an uproar among the villagers. There is also a popular belief about this stream that there is never a shortage of water here, which is also true. Due to heavy rains in the upper reaches, the dam overflowed due to which the Machu 2 dam in Morbi also overflowed.

Special purpose in Upaleta and Jamkandorana, seven and a half inches in 24 hours
Rajkot’s Upleta, Kalana, Jamkandorana, Bhayavadar, Jetpur, Dhoraji were especially favored by the Meghraja and the parish became waterlogged after two and a half to three inches of rain fell in a day and 7.5 inches in 24 hours. Their troubles increased as houses in low-lying areas were flooded.

The Meghraja, who had been staying in Kalana for two days, called Satsati and rained 6 inches of water in 6 hours, rivers started flowing everywhere. The farmers were happy with the rain like raw gold. The problem of drinking water of the people was solved in a big way with 20 feet new water coming in Fophal Dam of Dhoraji.

On the other hand, when Bhadar 2 flooded, the people of Bhola, Bhalgamda, Chhadavadar, Supedi, Dumiani, Chikhlia, Samdhiyala, Ganod, Isra, Kundech, Bhimora, Gadha, Hadfodi, Lath, Meli Majethi villages of the taluk were urged not to move in the Hethwas area. Bhayavadar, Nagavadar, Paneli, Dhak, Tanaswadar are also receiving one to one and a half inches of rain. People of eight to ten villages like Derdi Awas, Monpar, Khodaldham, Khambhalida, Mashitala, Lilakha etc. are having to come and go at the risk of life as the bridge of Bethi Dhabi of Jetpur was washed away.
