Zack Snyder Delves Into the Symbolism of Atticus Noble’s Bone Staff in Rebel Moon

In a recent interview with ComingSoon, Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder provided insights into the symbolism behind the formidable bone staff wielded by the antagonist Atticus Noble in the space opera movie.

Snyder discussed the creative process behind crafting the bone staff and its role in fight scenes, emphasizing its metaphorical significance in the narrative. According to the filmmaker, the bone staff serves as a representation of the Imperium, embodying its blunt and heavy-handed nature.

“I really love the idea. I mean, not to say it’s too heavy-handed of a metaphor, but that the Imperium is a blunt instrument,” Snyder explained. “They are not surgical. They are very heavy-handed. I just thought that this club was a hilarious weapon for Noble to have. Then, of course, it’s based on this mythological relic — long ago, baby Issa was carried across the desert by this creature that had this super long femur. That’s what that bone is. It’s almost like a Joseph-and-Mary-style story.

“But we went to that deep sort of storytelling devices that the weapons were even based on mythological elements that you wouldn’t even learn in the movie, but that was really fun. I do love that bone staff.”

Rebel Moon unfolds a gripping narrative where a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy faces a dire threat from the armies of the tyrannical regent, Balisarius. To combat this menace, the desperate civilians dispatch Kora, a young woman with a mysterious past, to seek out warriors from nearby planets and rally them to challenge the regent.
