Scream Factory enthusiasts will need to wait a bit longer for The Ring 4K Collection as its release date has been postponed to early 2024. Initially scheduled for the upcoming month, the delay aims to grant the restoration team ample time “to create the best possible brand-new 4K transfer of The Ring (2002), as supervised by Director Gore Verbinski.”
Mark your calendars for the new release date: March 19, 2024.
A Brief Recap of The Ring Legacy
The Ring, a reimagining of Hideo Nakata’s iconic 1998 Japanese horror film Ringu, became one of the most successful Western adaptations of Asian horror. Directed by Gore Verbinski, the movie follows newspaper reporter Rachel Keller (played by Naomi Watts) as she investigates the mysterious deaths of four teenagers, all occurring precisely one week after watching a perplexing videotape. Succumbing to investigative curiosity, Rachel locates the video and, against better judgment, decides to watch it. The consequence? She now has a mere seven days to unravel the enigma of the Ring.
In The Ring Two, directed by Nakata himself, the vengeful spirit Samara returns to pursue the soul of Rachel’s son, continuing the eerie tale.
The trilogy concludes with 2017’s Rings, directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez. While widely regarded as the weakest entry, the film centers on a woman who becomes increasingly concerned about her boyfriend delving into the ominous urban legend of a videotape with fatal consequences seven days after viewing. Sacrifices are made, and a chilling revelation unfolds: there exists a “movie within the movie” that has never been seen before.
As fans anticipate the enhanced visual experience with the 4K Collection, this delay promises a meticulous restoration process and a fresh perspective on the cinematic journey of The Ring trilogy.
