Daniel Radcliffe Addresses Harry Potter TV Series Cameo Rumors: “Definitely Not Seeking” a Role

Daniel Radcliffe, renowned for his portrayal of ‘The Boy Who Lived’ in the Harry Potter film franchise, has reportedly clarified that he is not actively pursuing a cameo role in Max’s upcoming TV series adaptation of the beloved wizarding world. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Radcliffe expressed his contentment with not returning to the iconic role, emphasizing his excitement for the series to embark on a new journey with a fresh cast.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced a decade-long series adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, set to feature an entirely new cast, in April. Rowling herself will serve as an executive producer for the series, which is expected to premiere in 2025 or 2026.

Radcliffe conveyed his understanding of the creative decision to start afresh, stating, “My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh, and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.” He added that he is not actively seeking a role but wishes the new team success, saying, “I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world, and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

Radcliffe’s comments echo a trend in modern blockbusters, where past actors are sometimes included for nostalgia or fan service. He cited the example of The Flash, which incorporated multiversal elements to bring back past actors.

The Fantastic Beasts film series, originally planned for five films, faced uncertainty after the lukewarm reception of the third installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. In contrast, the Harry Potter Max series aims to adapt each of Rowling’s seven novels into a single season, seeking to capture the magic of the original films tailored for a new generation.

Since his role in the Harry Potter series, Radcliffe has diversified his career with theatre plays and unconventional film roles, such as playing a zombie in Swiss Army Man. His upcoming appearance in TBS’ anthology comedy series ‘Miracle Workers’ sees him as a wasteland warrior named Sid in a fictional dystopia called Boomtown.

The Harry Potter Max series is anticipated to premiere exclusively on Max, targeting a release window between 2025 and 2026.
