Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen is making his Netflix comeback with an all-new drama series titled Calabasas. The show marks an exciting collaboration between Van Dusen, Kim Kardashian, and Emma Roberts, promising a stylish and emotionally charged look into the life of a teenage girl trying to find her place in an elite California high school.

Chris Van Dusen Takes the Helm as Showrunner

Netflix has officially confirmed that Chris Van Dusen will serve as the showrunner and writer for Calabasas. The project, produced by Kardashian and Roberts, draws inspiration from Via Bleidner’s memoir, If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now.

Van Dusen replaces I. Marlene King, the creator of Pretty Little Liars, who was previously attached to the project for over a year. This new venture continues Van Dusen’s successful partnership with Netflix, following his work on the first two hit seasons of Bridgerton, one of the platform’s most-streamed dramas to date.

A Glimpse into the Story

Calabasas follows Via, a 16-year-old girl from the Midwest whose world is turned upside down when her family relocates to the glitzy suburbs of Los Angeles. Thrust into the social spotlight at Calabasas High, she must navigate the pressures of popularity, privilege, and self-discovery in a city obsessed with fame. The series promises a sharp and heartfelt exploration of identity, adolescence, and the modern teen experience.

Production and Team Behind the Scenes

Van Dusen will executive-produce Calabasas through his banner CVD Productions, joining forces with Emma Roberts’ Belletrist Productions, Karah Preiss, Matt Matruski, and Alexandra Milchan of Crescent Line, which initially acquired the book rights.

This project adds to Van Dusen’s growing list of Netflix collaborations, including the upcoming adaptations of Adam Silvera’s They Both Die at the End and Elle Kennedy’s Girl Abroad.

Further updates on Calabasas—including casting and release details—are expected soon.
