The past few times have not been good for smartphone company Xiaomi India. On one hand the company is facing the challenge of reducing its share in the Indian market and on the other hand it is also facing the strictness of government agencies. Amidst all this, the company is going to make significant changes in the Indian business and there may be massive layoffs (Xiaomi India Layoffs) under it.
Fear of massive layoffs
Several current and former employees of Xiaomi India have told ET that there could be massive layoffs in the coming days, as Xiaomi looks to revamp its Indian business. The company plans to reduce the number of employees in its Indian business to less than 1,000. By early 2023, Xiaomi India had a workforce of 1,400-1,500.
Now the decision is being taken from China itself
Xiaomi India has done layoffs before. The company has laid off about 30 employees this month. According to ET news, Xiaomi India’s extensive changes in its business structure have shifted most of the decision-making power to the China-based parent company. Now the China-based parent company is taking most of the decisions regarding the management of Xiaomi India.
The company has slipped to the third position
During the first quarter of the year 2023, Xiaomi India’s shipments saw a major drop and fell to just 5 million. Just a year before this, Xiaomi India’s shipment figure was 7-8 million. Xiaomi India has been occupying the first position in the Indian market for a long time, but now the company has fallen far behind. Currently, Samsung is at the first position, while Vivo is at the second position.
EDIt has confiscated so much wealth
Xiaomi India has recently faced action from government agencies. ED charges Xiaomi India with wrongful remittance of Rs. Bank assets worth over 5,500 crore have been seized. The company has legally challenged the ED’s charges and asset seizure.
