ITR Filing Deadline: The process of filing income tax returns for assessment year 2023-24 is going on in full swing. Millions of taxpayers are filing their returns every day. On the other hand, the Income Tax Department has started the processing of income tax returns and the refund money has also been sent to the taxpayers.

Currently the dashboard is showing this figure

According to the dashboard available on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal, more than 11.30 crore individual users have registered themselves so far. About 2.50 crore income tax returns have been filed. Of these, about 2.28 crore returns have been verified. The Income Tax Department has so far processed 1.02 crore returns out of the total returns filed.

Only 2 weeks left

There is no more time left in the last date for filing income tax returns for the last financial year. The last date for filing income tax return for the financial year 2022-23 i.e. assessment year 2023-24 is 31 July 2023. It means that now you have only 2 weeks left to file the return. One thing to keep in mind while filing the return is that verification is required after filing the return. Unverified returns are declared invalid.

The number of returnees is increasing

As the deadline approaches, the number of taxpayers filing returns is increasing. Many people also postpone important work and this is also seen in the case of income tax returns. The Income Tax Department has been repeatedly warning taxpayers not to wait for the deadline and file returns as soon as possible.

The Revenue Secretary gave this advice

If you too have not yet filed your return and are expecting an extension of the deadline, let us tell you that the chances of this happening are very low. The government did not extend the deadline for filing returns last year as well. This time too, there is no sign of an increase in the deadline. A recent report by Business Today quoted Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as saying that there is no proposal in this regard. According to Malhotra, there is currently no proposal to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns. My advice is that all taxpayers should file returns well in advance.
