Tomato Price Hike: Tomato Spoils Common Man’s Budget, Wholesale Price Also Crosses Rs 100 Per Kg

Tomato Price in Himachal: The ever-increasing prices of tomatoes have ruined the household budget of a common man. Tomato prices continue to rise due to unseasonal rains. In Solan Sabji Mandi too, the wholesale price of tomatoes has reached Rs 108 per kg. Surendra Kumar, a farmer from a village adjacent to Solan, sold a crate of 25 kg tomatoes for Rs 2,700 on Monday. Earlier on Saturday, tomatoes were sold up to Rs 92 per kg.

So far 30 thousand crates of tomatoes have been sent to foreign states. The income of tomatoes is increasing in the vegetable market. Farmers are also making up for the losses due to unseasonal rains, but due to the increase in retail prices, the common man’s budget has been disrupted. The tomato season will be at its peak in the next two weeks. After this the price is expected to come down to some extent.

Steady growth since last one week

Tomatoes are also being sent to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana from Himachal Pradesh’s agricultural produce market Solan. The retail price of tomato is also up to Rs 100 per kg in the Shimla vegetable market on Tuesday. Apart from this, cabbage is being sold up to Rs 120 per kg. Apart from tomato and cabbage, prices of ginger, garlic and peas have also increased. Overall, after pulses now vegetables have disrupted the common man’s budget.

Retail Prices of Vegetables in Shimla Sabzi Mandi

Tomato – 100 rupees per kg

Cabbage – Rs 120 per kg

Peas – Rs. 50 per kg

Pulses – Rs 50 per kg

Karela – Rs 60 per kg

Okra – Rs 60 per kg

Eggplant – Rs 60 per kg

People are worried about rising prices

On the other hand, common people reaching the market to buy vegetables say that the government should keep the prices under control. Due to the continuous increase in the prices of vegetables, the budget of the common man has been completely disrupted. The increase of Rs 10 per kg has also affected the common man. In such a situation due to doubling of prices, the common man is having a big impact. Buying vegetables for the family is no less of a challenge. Due to price increase, people have reduced the quantity of vegetables. Vegetables which used to go up to one kg at home have now reached up to half a kg.
