Thus, the price has become dull during the week.

Tomato has become so ‘red’ in the country that people are crying tears of inflation and due to its rising prices, tomato has disappeared from people’s kitchens. However, what is surprising is that Union Ministers of the Central Government do not consider this to be a major problem and are saying that the prices are continuously increasing due to the rains. Tomato prices are going to come down soon and will have to wait a bit.

Listen to Union Minister Piyush Goyal

Talking to ANI, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has said that tomato is the only commodity whose price has increased this week. We all know that due to unseasonal rains, the price of tomatoes is going up. Tomato prices will start coming down as tomatoes start arriving from parts of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka.

However, Piyush Goyal also said something which as always shows the attitude of the government that the situation is under their control. Piyush Goyal said that if we compare with last year’s prices, there is not much difference. On the other hand, potato and onion prices are skyrocketing.

However, the public feels that the government should take immediate action in this regard and ensure easy supply of tomatoes.

The Modi government at the Center has sought views to ensure availability of tomatoes at affordable prices to consumers and help farmers get remunerative prices for their produce. Tomato growers say that since traders are not interested in buying tomatoes, they are forced to sell their produce in Delhi, Dehradun, Saharanpur, Chandigarh, Haridwar and other cities of neighboring states at their own prices. So tomatoes get stocked and the price suddenly skyrockets.
