Stock Market Today 20 July, 2023: Indices Open Flat Amid Mixed Cues

Stock Market Today: While the global market is showing mixed signals today, the Indian stock market has also had a sluggish start.

The Sensex was down 79.10 points or 0.12% at 67,018.34 and the Nifty was down 24.50 points or 0.12% at 19,808.70. About 1454 stocks advanced, 670 stocks declined and 126 stocks remained unchanged.

Power Grid Corporation, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, IndusInd Bank, SBI Life Insurance and NTPC were the top gainers on the Nifty, while HCL Technologies, Infosys, Britannia Industries, Nestle India and Apollo Hospitals were the top losers.

US stock market moves

On Wednesday, the US stock markets also closed with strong gains. The Dow Jones closed up 109 points yesterday. The S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq also managed to close in the green. US stock futures and Asian markets are showing mixed signals today. Overseas markets also saw some weakness after Tesla and Netflix reported weaker-than-expected results. However, the Dow Jones managed to close higher for the 8th day in a row in Wednesday’s regular trade. The Nasdaq was slightly softer.

Meanwhile, Asian markets are witnessing mixed business today. GIFT NIFTY showed a decline of 3.00 points. At the same time, the Nikkei is showing a decline of about 1.15 percent around 32,521.88. At the same time, it showed weakness of 0.12 percent in straight times. The Taiwan market is trading 0.45 percent higher at 17,193.12. While the Hang Seng is seen at the level of 19,049.19 with an increase of 0.51 percent. At the same time, the Kospi is trading down 0.10 percent. At the same time, the Shanghai Composite was down 0.04 percent at 3,197.43.

Foreign institutional investors bought into the cash market during the day’s trading on Wednesday. While domestic institutional investors have sold. FIIs yesterday in cash market Rs. 1,165.47 crore shares were bought. While DIIA Rs. 2,134.54 crore has been sold.

Indian benchmark indices extended gains for the fifth consecutive session on July 19. The market was bullish amid buying in all sectors. The Sensex ended the market up 302.30 points or 0.45 percent at 67,097.44. The Nifty closed up 83.90 points or 0.42 percent at 19,833.20.
