Stock Market Closing, 26th May, 2023: The first business day of the week was not special for the Indian stock market. After starting the day lower, it ended the day with modest gains. The market closed lower for the third consecutive trading day. Investors’ wealth rose to Rs 290.68 lakh crore today, from Rs 289.45 lakh crore on Friday, despite the fall in the market. That is, the wealth of investors has increased by more than one lakh crore.
Why did the market fall today?
Indian stock markets closed flat today due to volatility. The first trading session of the week was full of ups and downs for both Indian stock market indices Sensex and Nifty. The Sensex closed down 9.37 points at 62970 points and the Nifty rose 25.7 points at 18691.20 points. About 1859 shares advanced, 1787 declined and 171 were unchanged.
Today’s star performer for the Indian market was the mid cap sector shares. From investors was seen in mid cap shares. FMCG and pharma stocks also saw strong buying. NTPC, Reliance Industries, TCS, Power Grid Corporation and Coal India were the top losers on the Nifty today, while Cipla, Hero MotoCorp, Adani Enterprises, Tata Consumer Products and Divis Laboratories included. On the sectoral front, auto and pharma rose 1 percent each, while FMCG and metal indices rose 0.5 percent. The BSE midcap index rose 1 percent and the smallcap index rose 0.7 percent.

In today’s trade, shares of banking, auto, IT, pharma, metals, FMCG, real estate, media, commodity, consumer durables, healthcare sectors have seen declines while oil & gas, infra, energy stocks have seen gains. Mid-cap sector stocks saw the highest buying by investors in today’s trade. The mid-cap index closed at 35,120 points, up 320 points or 0.92 percent. The small cap index closed higher. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 20 closed higher while 10 closed lower. While out of 50 shares of Nifty, 36 shares were closed with an increase and 14 with a decrease.
How did this morning start?
The Indian market got off to a sluggish start today amid mixed signals in global markets. The Sensex was up 75.66 points or 0.12% at 63,055.03 and the Nifty was up 17.30 points or 0.09% at 18,682.80. About 1319 stocks advanced, 990 stocks declined and 181 stocks remained unchanged.
