P And G India Announces An Investment Of Rs 2000 Crore In Gujarat To Set Up An Export Hub In India

P&G to invest in Gujarat: Procter & Gamble India to set up a new state-of-the-art personal healthcare manufacturing unit in Gujarat at Rs. 2000 crores was announced to be invested. The investment was made by P&G India CEO LV Vaidyanathan in a meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The unit will be built on top of P&G India’s existing manufacturing reach of 8 plants in the country and will expand its existing presence in Gujarat. P&G has commissioned a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Sanand, Ahmedabad since 2015.

The new state-of-the-art manufacturing unit will specifically manufacture products that form part of P&G’s global healthcare product portfolio, including digestives. The unit will be operational in the next few years and is well-positioned to become an export hub for P&G globally, as it will help P&G India serve customers across the globe. With this investment, P&G India will significantly boost the local economy by helping to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs.

This investment demonstrates P&G’s unwavering focus on participating in India’s growth journey and its commitment to continuously evolve and transform its supply chain to better meet the needs of its customers, consumers and communities. In just one decade, P&G through its operations in the country has generated around Rs. 8200 crores (1 billion US dollars) has been invested.

What CM Bhupendra Patel said

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, I congratulate P&G India for starting a new project. It is a new landmark in the journey of P&G in this state and country. The factory will also be an export hub and we welcome the opportunities it will bring to local people. Gujarat and P&G India have a long-standing relationship, dating back to their current project in Sanand. Expanding their operations in our state is a testament to the immense capacity, opportunities and support industries can get from Gujarat.

What P&G India CEO LV Vaidyanathan said

The new manufacturing unit in Gujarat is an example of our confidence in the rich growth potential the country offers. With the state-of-the-art unit we aim to make India an export hub for P&G globally. It is also a significant milestone in our journey, which will position us to further expand our reach and our ability to deliver exceptional innovation to customers.”

The new unit is spread over an area of ​​50,000 square meters in Sanand, Gujarat. It will use state-of-the-art technology to manufacture outstanding products in the digestive wellness space and is designed to be fully automated based on the modern concept of Industry 4.0. The concept employs futuristic technology including quality inspection, robotic equipment for material movement and latest vision systems for operator cockpits. Also having them perform any essential tasks in relation to unit operations irrespective of gender or orientation will serve as an orientation towards our ambition to inspire equality and inclusiveness on our shop floors. The investment is planned through an unlisted private company and will not affect any listed public companies of the P&G Group in India.

Through its flagship CSR program PNDG Shiksha, PNDG India provides access to comprehensive education to underprivileged children in the country by strengthening educational infrastructure, bridging learning gaps and empowering marginalized groups. About 2.5 lakh children have been positively impacted through P&G Shiksha initiatives in the state.
