Income tax return filing process has started. 31 July 2023 is the last date to file ITR. In such a situation if you have not filed your ITR yet, file as soon as possible. It is to be noted that while filing income tax return you also need some important documents. Form 16 is very important for employees while filing ITR. Form 16 is given to employed people by their office. However, it is observed that employees whose taxable income does not exceed the basic exemption limit do not receive Form 16 from their employer.
However, you do not need to worry if you do not have Form 16 because That you can file your income tax return even without it. Experts say that you can file your ITR even without Form 16. Form 16 gives the details of TDS and TCS between the deductor and the person to whom the tax is to be deducted. Apart from this, it also tells about the income received in the form of salary along with various allowances and deductions. As per rules, companies, offices or employers have to declare Form 16 on or before June 15 every year.
Form 16 is in two parts
Notable Form 16 has two parts. Part A contains details about monthly deduction of certain taxes from salary of employees by office or company. While its Part B contains details of the salary paid by the office along with any other income and tax deducted thereon. Now let’s know how we can file ITR without form 16.
If you don’t have form 16 then you can file ITR through your salary slip along with form 26AS. Anyone can download form 26AS from TRACES website or through net banking of authorized bank. Salary slip contains details of all tax deductions along with salary. Apart from this, taxpayers should also check that additional income, deductions claimed on HRA, deductions under section 80C and 80D and other details are also calculated. Taxpayers can file their Income Tax Return without Form 16 if the amount of Gross Income, Total Deduction and Total TDS is same as shown in Form 26AS.
