2000 Rupee Note: By June 30, 76% Of Rs 2,000 Notes Returned To The Banking System

2000 Rupees Notes: The RBI has informed that since the announcement of withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes on May 19, 2023 till June 30, 2023, Rs 2.72 lakh crore i.e. 76 percent of Rs 2000 notes have returned to the banking system. RBI said that now only Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 84,000 crore remain in circulation.

30 Last date for deposit or exchange of September notes

According to data received from banks, from May 19, 2023 to June 30, 2023, a total of Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 2.72 lakh crore have returned to the banking system, RBI said. It means that 76 percent of the notes have returned to the banks. Now only Rs 0.84 lakh crore notes i.e. Rs 84,000 crore are left in circulation. September 30, 2023 is the last date to exchange or deposit these notes.

The RBI said data collected from major banks showed that 87 percent of the Rs 2,000 notes returned from circulation in banks were deposited in bank accounts. While only 13 percent of the notes could be replaced by notes of other denominations.

Deposit or exchange notes quickly

RBI will use the appropriate timing of the next three months to provide common people with Rs. 2,000 note has been requested to be deposited or exchanged. RBI said the last date for depositing or exchanging notes is 30 September 2023. In the last few days it has been advised to deposit or exchange the notes soon to avoid the rush.

30 September is the deadline

On May 19, 2022, RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 currency notes. At that time, RBI said that under the clean note policy, the 2000 rupee note is being withdrawn from circulation. The 2000 rupee note may stop circulating but the 2000 rupee note will remain legal tender. The Rs 2000 note can be exchanged for other denominations of currency at bank branches and RBI’s 19 regional offices.
