- 2097 CCTVs installed on 130 four roads are running continuously to catch traffic violators.
As many as 254 CCTV cameras, considered trinity for the city police to nab criminals, have been switched off for the past 3 months. A private company was awarded the contract to install and monitor these cameras. It is not renewed after completion. Due to the shutdown of these cameras, the city police is facing a lot of difficulty in catching the criminals for the last 3 months. While 2097 cameras installed for e-challan are on in front of it and e-challan is being generated daily.
254 CCTV cameras off for last 3 months
In 2014-2015, 254 CCTV cameras were installed on 82 four roads of the city to catch the criminals who are fleeing after committing crimes like theft, robbery, kidnapping, assault, murder, accident etc. These cameras were installed at a height of 30 to 40 feet to cover 360 degree vision. Because of this, the work of the police became so easy that the police could easily find out which street any criminal went to in Ahmedabad and caught the criminal. To put it bluntly, these cameras proved to be trinity for the police. But this trinity of police has been stopped for the last 3 months.
The ratio of catching criminals with the help of CCTV is barely 1 percent
Against this, 2097 CCTV cameras were installed on 130 four roads of the city to generate e-currency under the Smart City Project. All of which are currently ongoing and e-memo is also being generated daily. Against this, the ratio of catching criminals with the help of CCTV under Smart City Project is not even 1 percent.
In 25 incidents of hit and run in 3 months, the police could not catch a single accused
These crimes are not solved because the CCTV is off
1 15 days ago, an employee of Angadia firm was robbed of Rs.46.51 lakh by shooting in Shahrekotda. In which the accused were not caught without CCTV.
In 2 three months, the police could not catch the robbers in even one incident of chain snatching or mobile snatching in the city.
3 Police failed to nab the accused in 25 hit-and-run incidents in the city in the last 3 months.
It is the turn of the crime branch to suffer the most
When incidents like theft, robbery, kidnapping, murder, shooting happen in the city, crime branch teams reach with the local police. Not only this, the crime branch teams get busy to get the CCTVs of the roads and shops around the incident site and based on that track the culprit and nab him. But since the CCTV cameras are off for 3 months, the crime branch is facing difficulties.
Police Control Room, Paldina Mun. Monitoring was done from the control room
The monitoring of 254 CCTV cameras installed by a private company was done from the police control room and the municipal control room at Paldi. But since last 3 months all these CCTV cameras have been switched off, criminals have got an open field. CCTVs were switched off when two state government ministers visited the municipal control room on Sunday.
Movement, faces of the criminals were clearly visible in the CCTV
CCTV cameras installed for e-currency under Smart City project help in catching criminals. But since the vision of the camera is limited to the number plate of the vehicle, it cannot capture the far vision. While the private company’s CCTV cameras work 360 degrees and as the cameras are installed at a height of 40 feet, the criminals or their vehicles can be clearly seen coming and going from a distance. Not only this, in most of the incidents, the faces of the criminals could also be seen clearly in the CCTV.
