Under the chairmanship of Valsad District Collector Kshipra Agre dt. On Wednesday, June 28, a meeting of the District Epidemiological and Coordinating Committee for Prevention of Communicable Epidemics was held in the auditorium of the District Collector’s office. In which the work done by the Health Branch of the Zilla Panchayat and the work to be done in the coming days was reviewed. Along with this, a meeting of the National Program on Climate Change and Human Health and a meeting of the District Steering Committee of the Tobacco Control Committee under the Tobacco Control Act-2003 were also held. In which various suggestions were made by the Collector regarding the health of the public. District Development Officer Manish Gurwani was also present in this meeting.
The Communicable Epidemiology meeting compared cases of fever, diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid and dog bite-animal bite cases from June 2022 to May 2023 against the last 3 months from March to May 2023. Chief District Health Officer Dr. said that a 24-hour center has also been opened in the civil hospital to provide immediate treatment in cases of dog bite-animal bite. KP Patel said. Discussing that only 2 cases of Leptospirosis were observed in 2022 last year, Collector suggested to work accordingly to have zero cases this year. Taluka Wise District Chief Health Officer Dr. Statistical information that chemoprophylaxis drugs are being distributed to prevent this disease by the health department team. was given by K.P.Patel. Antirodent activity, Shiro surveillance report was discussed.
Taluka wise seasonal flu (H1N1) reported in Valsad district in last 5 years was discussed. In the year 2017, 31 positive cases of seasonal flu and 11 deaths were reported in the district. Against which 12 positive cases and 1 death were reported in the year 2022. While in the current year 2023, not a single positive case has been seen so far. A total of 343 cases of Kovid-19 corona were seen in the current year 2023 from January to the current June. While 4,547 cases of malaria were reported in the year 2023. But intensive operations by the health department have registered only 8 cases in the last year 2022 and only 5 cases in the current year 2023 from January to April. Since the year 2013 till date, there has not been a single death due to malaria in the district. 98 cases of dengue were seen in the year 2013. Which decreased to 22 in the year 2022. While not a single case has been seen this year. In the year 2022, 5 cases of Chikungunya were reported in the district, but not a single case has been reported so far this year, said the District Epidemic Control Officer Dr. Manoj Patel said.
12,589 students in 63 schools against the target of 60 schools in the year 2017-18 were sensitized about the harm caused by addiction, including tobacco, to the body in the tobacco control program meeting. While in the year 2022, against the target of 60 schools, 8,652 students were counseled in 54 schools and in the current year 2023, 839 students were counseled in 8 schools so far. 1,237 patients were counseled in the year 2017-18 and 2,259 in the previous year 2022-23 in the tobacco session center functioning at GMERS Medical College, Valsad. Apart from this, information was given about the celebration of May 31 World No Tobacco Day in educational institutions. An understanding of the fines and penalties for contravening the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 was provided. A total of 1491 cases were registered by District Code Department, Health Department, Municipalities, Police, Education Department, Transport Department and Food and Drug Regulatory Authority for tobacco control violations in the year 2017-18 with a total of Rs. A penalty amount of 2.84 lakhs was levied. While in the current year 2023 37 cases till June 25 and Rs. 5,100 fine was levied.
In the meeting of National Program on Climate Change and Human Health, it was discussed that rainwater harvesting in 3 primary health centers and 2 mass health centers of the district, solar system in 3 PHCs and 2 CHCs and installation of LED bulbs instead of non-LED bulbs in 3 PHCs and 2 CHCs. Surveillance of cases of acute respiratory illness due to air pollution was discussed. In this meeting, District Supply Officer Kajal Gamit, Additional District Health Officer Dr. Vipul Gamit, RCHO Dr. AK Singh, District Leprosy Officer Dr. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, District Tuberculosis Officer. Harpal Singh, specialists from private hospitals, all taluka health officers of the district, medical officers were present.
