In the catchment of Ukai Dam, the Meghraja is now slowly becoming stagnant. In the monsoon season of 2022, the level of Meghraja’s Maharatha Dam crossed the alarming level and was taken above 345 feet. Subsequently, the water level of the dam has decreased by 37 feet in the last nine months for continuous irrigation, drinking water, industrial water supply from Ukai Dam to 308.27 feet today.

During the monsoon season, the population of Surat city keeps their eye fixed on the Ukai Dam for the last four months. Last year, the catchment of Meghraja’s Maharaja’s Ukai Dam received an average of 31.4 inches of rain during the monsoon season. Because of this, the water had to be released from the dam with continuous water inflow in Ukai Dam. Also, the authorities raised the level of Ukai Dam above the alarming level of 345 feet.
The total water volume in Ukai Dam is 6746.57 million cubic meters
Even in last October, water continued to be released in Ukai Dam. Meanwhile, the release of water from Ukai Dam was stopped. At that time the level of Ukai Dam was 345.14 feet. And the total water volume in Ukai Dam was recorded at 6746.57 Million Cubic Meter (Mcm). While the total CPCT of the dam is 7430.96 (MCM).
1869 MCM of water is saved in Ukai Dam
From October-2022 to June-2023, Ukai Dam provided continuous water for irrigation, water supply to population of Surat City, Ankleshwar, Navsari and Industrial. Because of this, out of the 6748 MCM of water in October-2022, 4877 MCM of water has been used in the last nine months, and today 1869 MCM of water has been saved. In 2022 the surface was 345.14 feet. It decreased by 37 feet and today it was recorded at 308.27 feet.
The dam level is seven feet lower this year than last year
Last year in 2022, the level of Ukai Dam was recorded as 315.70 feet today. And this year today 308.27 feet was recorded. Thus, the level of Ukai Dam has been recorded 7 feet less this year than last year. In which the main reason was that a total of 235 days of water was given for irrigation from Ukai Dam this year. And due to which the summer paddy crop was harvested well.
