Elon Musk – Mukesh Ambani : World’s richest businessman Elon Musk is keen to bring his Starlink satellite broadband to India. Starlink provides revolutionary internet service. It does not require towering on the ground. Internet service is available directly from satellite. If Starlink comes to India, a business war may break out between the world’s richest man and Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani. Ambani is the chairman of Reliance Group and Reliance Jio is India’s top telecom company.

Musk’s meeting with PM Modi

Elon Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. After this meeting, Musk said that he is keen to launch Starlink in India. Starlink, he said, can help immeasurably in remote villages in India where there is no internet or low speed.

The ground is ready for a fight between two rich people

However, he did not talk about how Starlink is in dispute with Ambani’s Reliance over allocation of satellite broadband spectrum to the government. This has set the stage for a battle between two of the world’s richest men over satellite services in the world’s most populous country.

What is Starlink planning?

Instead of auctioning spectrum, India should allocate licenses as per the global trend, says Starlink. Starlink says it is a natural resource that should be shared with companies. The company’s papers, released by the Indian government this month, said geographic restrictions could be imposed on auctions, which would increase costs.

Reliance does not agree with Musk

Reliance disagrees with Starlink. He has publicly talked about auctioning the spectrum. Foreign satellite service providers can offer voice and data services and compete with local telecom companies, Reliance said. That is why auctions should be held to give equal opportunity to all. Musk also tried to launch Starlink in India in 2021.

439 million users of Jio

It will not be difficult for Ambani to fend off foreign competition in satellite broadband. Its Reliance Jio already has 439 million telecom users, making it the market leader. Jio has 8 million wired broadband connections, a 25 percent market share.
