According to the bulletin released by the Indian Meteorological Department at 2.30 pm on Monday, Cyclone Biporjoy has moved towards the north after covering a distance of only 8 km in the last 6 hours. In view of this, the cyclone has reached the Arabian Sea 430 km away from the Jakhou port of Kutch, where it is likely to make landfall on June 15 afternoon.
As the cyclone makes landfall in the afternoon on June 15, its impact is likely to be seen over North Gujarat as the cyclone moves in a north-easterly direction. Heavy winds of 40 to 50 km per hour are likely to blow in North Gujarat from June 13 to 15. While on June 16, Patan, Banaskantha, Mehsana and Sabarkantha districts will experience wind gusts of 45 to 65 km per hour, while Aravalli district will experience gusts of 40 to 50 km per hour.
Rain forecast
2.4 mm to 2.5 inches of rain likely over North Gujarat on June 13 and 14. While on June 15 and 16, Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha districts may receive two and a half inches to 8 inches of rain. Aravalli district is likely to receive up to 2.5 inches of rain on June 15 and 2.5 to 4.5 inches on June 16.
Monsoons will not be affected by cyclones
