- Cleaning of drains has started in Godhra but cleaning of main drain is still pending
- As pre-monsoon operations of the municipality are slow, there is a possibility of flooding
Panchmahal district has been counting days for the arrival of Monsoon. The district collector has given orders to the returning officers to start pre-monsoon operations by the district administration. The concerned officials were urged to speed up the pre-monsoon work, cleaning operations, removal of hanging wires, trimming of trees, cleaning of drains, arrangements for disposal of water in low-lying areas.
As part of the pre-monsoon preparations in the urban and rural areas of the district, details of the preparations have been made at the time of evacuating the riverine people. While the pre-monsoon operations have started at a slow pace in Godhra city. Godhra Nagar Municipality has cleaned the drains of some areas, including those near the Yogeshwar Society, but the municipality has not cleaned the city’s main drain located in the Dock area on Station Road. Even though the drains in Godhra have been cleaned, the main areas where the monsoon water gets flooded by the municipality have not yet been cleaned by the municipality, so the rainwater may cause problems in the coming days.
The stream passing through the area near Godhra station road Rana Vas has not been cleaned during the pre-monsoon operation. Due to dumping of garbage in the canal for the last one year, the sewerage is blocked and the sewage is not being disposed of at present.
During the monsoon season, when there is heavy rain, the water from the uplands enters this gully. But at present, due to the complete closure of the canal, if the monsoon water is not disposed off, the situation will worsen when the surrounding areas get flooded again. Despite several oral representations made by the locals to clean the drains, the necessary steps are not taken by the municipality. We are concerned about what will happen in the coming monsoon season and demand immediate cleaning of the blocked watercourse.
