According to Suchitra Pal, president of Consumer Protection Consumer Satyagraha Consumer Revolution, all citizens of the world should have access to clean, wholesome, wholesome food and water. But it is sad to say that the statistics of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Food Department Health Department are shocking. According to the information sought in the RTI, among the samples taken during the period from 1-1-2022 to 30-4-2023, 53 samples have been declared sub-standard and 63 samples have been declared mis-branded. It is a matter of concern to find sub-standard and mis-branded items that are used daily in the kitchen of every citizen and consumer. A case against such traders by the Municipal Corporation is considered satisfactory. In fact, immediate prosecution case should be decided.

Use of mobile testing vans
According to the existing law, there is a provision of fine up to five lakhs for a sample declared sub-standard and up to 3,00,000 for a sample declared miss-branded, but the prosecuting officers do not pursue the case for a long time under the pretext of work load, so the length of time reduces the importance of the case. Goes and punishments or fines become unnecessary. The act actually done does not affect the trader so that the traders do not hesitate or fear to commit such offense again. Officials of the Food Department should announce the results of the samples using mobile testing vans as soon as required. So that impure, adulterated and spoiled food can be prevented from reaching people’s stomachs. As the analysis report comes late, such quantity is sold, reaching people’s stomachs. People are suffering from serious diseases.

Provide clean wholesome food and water
He further appealed to the government and responsible officials with a message on the occasion of today’s World Food Safety Day to make necessary arrangements to provide clean and healthy food and water to all the citizens and to declare the results of the on-the-spot inspection of the food items. Inedible quantity should be disposed of in the presence of the responsible officer Information of the process laid down by the Government for disposal of used oil for frying should be made available to all citizens. So that the used fried oil is not disposed of anywhere and the oil sent to the government agency for disposal reaches the kitchen back to the people for use. Milk, curd, ghee, butter, cheese, coriander powder are declared sub standard.

It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that clean food and water are available
Package drinking water, chocolate is declared mis-branded. Strict action should be taken against the profit and earning business units which compromise the quality and endanger the health and life of millions of citizens through frequent checking and should be closed down if necessary and every unit should be mandatorily checked from time to time. It is the responsibility and duty of the government to make available the daily necessities of life in pure health and unadulterated, and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that every citizen has access to clean food and water. Pal said that food safety officers who collect petty fines in the name of settlement charges instead of taking all the legal action against the unit when they receive quality complaints against the food items, which encourages the business units to commit arbitrariness, should be stopped, Pal said.
